Chiron's Story & My Healer's Journey From Practitioner To Teacher
The Wounded Healer
There's a story from Greek mythology about a centaur named Chiron. Unlike the wild, chaotic centaurs around him, Chiron was wise, a teacher of healers, a master of medicine. And yet Chiron carried a wound of his own, one that never fully closed. Immortal, he couldn't die from it, and so he lived with it. It's said that living alongside that wound, rather than being defeated by it, is what made him such a profound healer of others. He understood pain from the inside. He didn't teach from theory. He taught from having walked through the fire himself.
That story has been on my mind lately, because it mirrors something I recognise in my own path, and in so many of the clients I work with.
Where It Started - Skin Science To Neuroscience
I spent decades in the world of professional skincare. On the surface, that work is about the face — about texture, tone, radiance. But thirty years in, what became unmistakably clear is that how we look was never really the point. It's how we feel. Skin holds our stress, our sleep, our self-worth, our history. I'd watch a treatment change someone's face, and then watch something bigger change in how they carried themselves afterward — their posture, their voice, the way they met their own eyes in the mirror. That was the real work. The skin was just where it became visible.
That realisation is what carried me from skincare into neuro reflexology, into the Sorensensistem® method, and into everything I now do through Facial Reflexology Ireland — vagus nerve reset, trauma therapy and emotional release, mindset and consciousness work, subconscious repatterning and physical health management. The face stopped being the destination. It became the doorway into the nervous system, into the story the body has been holding onto.
The women who find me
Almost every woman who sits in my chair is a version of the same pattern. She gives her energy to her children, her partner, her clients, her ageing parents, her friends in crisis, her career, her never ending to-do list. She is remarkably good at tending to everyone else's needs and remarkably good at putting her own last. And she keeps going, keeps giving, keeps functioning — until she hits a wall. Burnout. Overwhelm. A nervous system so overworked that her body starts speaking the language her mouth never got to express.
She rarely arrives describing it that way. She arrives tired. Foggy. Not herself. And what unfolds, session by session, is the deep work of helping her nervous system feel safe enough to let go of what it's been holding — so she can come back to her own confidence, her own sense of self, the parts of her she set aside somewhere along the way in service of everyone else.
Where Chiron comes in
I don't hold myself apart from that pattern. I've lived it. The years of building, teaching, holding space for other people's healing — that path has its own wounds, its own version of learning to tend to myself rather than only to others. What I bring to this work isn't detachment; it's recognition. I'm not observing burnout and overwhelm from the outside. I know the road because I've walked it, and I'm still walking it, the way Chiron never stopped carrying his wound even as he taught others to heal theirs.
That's what I want people to feel in my work: not a practitioner delivering a protocol, but someone who understands — cell by cell, session by session — what it costs a woman to keep everyone else afloat, and what it takes to help her find her way back to herself.
The thread forward
It turned out that beauty was never really just about the face. It was the first place I learned to read what a nervous system was trying to say. Neuro reflexology is where I learned how to answer it.
If there's a woman reading this who recognises herself — the one who's always fine, always capable, always last on her own list — this is the work I built for you. To help you come home to yourself.
Teaching the Healers
In the Chiron story, the wound was never the whole of it. What made Chiron extraordinary wasn't only that he understood pain from the inside — it's that he turned around and taught it. Some of the most gifted healers in the old stories learned their craft at Chiron's side. He didn't just do the healing work himself. He built other healers.
That's the part of the story I find myself living now.
From practitioner to teacher
For over thirty years I've worked directly with clients — hands on faces, on feet, on nervous systems that had often given up asking for help. But the work has never stayed only mine. As a certified practitioner and authorised instructor in the Sorensensistem® method, a large part of what I do now is pass it on — training other practitioners, running guest residencies, and working directly with spas and clinics who want to bring this depth of therapeutic work into what they offer.
That evolution from practitioner to teacher is its own kind of Chiron moment. It's one thing to work with a client and guide their nervous system back to safety. It's another to hand that capability to a whole team — to watch therapists learn to read what a client's body is holding, and to give them a method precise enough to work with it.
Why therapists are asking
The therapists and facilities that reach out to me are usually already excellent at what they do. What they're looking for is depth — a way to offer something beyond relaxation, something that addresses the nervous system dysregulation so many of their clients are carrying. Vagus nerve reset. Trauma-informed facial work. Protocols that support real emotional release, not just a pleasant hour.
That's where the Sorensensistem® method earns its place. It gives the team a structured, teachable way to work with the face as a map of the nervous system — grounded in technique, not guesswork. Training a team in this isn't just adding a new menu item. It's giving therapists the tools to offer clients something that meets them at a much deeper level, and it gives a spa a form of therapeutic credibility that the market is calling for right now.
What this looks like in practice
Bringing this into a spa can take a few different forms — in-person training days for a team in certified protocols from facial rejuvenation to nervous system regulation, guest residencies where I work directly in the space, or ongoing support as a specialist resource as a spa builds out its therapeutic offering. Every format is built around the same principle: giving practitioners a method they can trust, rooted in real anatomy and real outcomes.
The thread that connects it
This is the natural next chapter of the story. First, learning that the face was never just about the face — it was the doorway into the nervous system. Then, spending years refining a method precise enough to work with what's found there. And now, teaching that method to the teams who are ready to offer it — so that the reach of this work isn't limited to what I can do with my own two hands.
If you lead a spa or clinic and you're looking to bring genuine therapeutic depth to your team, this is the conversation I'd love to have with you.
